Mr. Bartell is an attorney, CPA, and cofounder of the Law Firm of Bartell, Barickman & Powell, LLP. He primarily serves clients with high-growth business ventures, whether by mergers and acquisitions, corporate bankruptcies in both Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 settings, business formation, commercial litigation, taxation issues, franchising, and securities law issues including venture capital funding. His clients include small technology start-up companies to For-tune 500 companies.
In addition to being a lawyer, he has significant accounting, financial, and management experience. Mr. Bartell has a Masters in Business Administration and has passed the Certified Public Accountant exam. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Bartell lived on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC and served as the financial officer of the technology company Online Living. During this time, he also per-formed consulting services for the accounting firm Ernst & Young. Mr. Bartell served as an attorney for President George W. Bush in the Florida recount in 2000.

Jason A. Barickman represents real estate owners, developers, and operators throughout North America in all aspects of real estate acquisitions and dispositions, and the ownership, development, financing, leasing and operation of real property. Mr. Barickman also assists clients when their business plans intersect with governmental and regulatory agencies. He has experience with governmental relations and is politically active.
Mr. Barickman served in the Illinois National Guard as an infantry soldier and was honorably discharged in 1998. He attended Illinois State University, where he was the Student Body Pre si-dent and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Political Science. Upon graduation, he began work for Ernst & Young, LLP, as a management consultant in the technology and telecommunication industries. Following, Mr. Barickman joined a small, start-up company that was subsequently acquired by Dynegy, Inc.
Mr. Barickman graduated from the University of Illinois College of Law. While there, he completed his legal internship with the Department of Justice’s Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Livingston County State’s Attorney’s Office, and worked as a graduate assistant to Governor Jim Edgar at the Institute of Government and Public Affairs. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Champaign County Republican Party

Michael A. Powell has spent more than a decade representing clients within the entire State of Illinois as well as in the St. Louis, Missouri area. Mr. Powell's trial experience covers many areas of the risk industry, including bodily injury, property damage, premise liability and products liability (with special emphasis in the areas of asbestos and other toxic torts), as well as real estate, contracts and corporate/business law litigation.
Mr. Powell graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 1998 with a joint Juris Doctorate degree and Masters in Business Administration. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, The Missouri Bar, McLean County Bar Association, McLean County Arbitrators Program, Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel and Robert E. Underwood Inn of Court.
Mr. Powell is licensed to practice law in both Illinois and Missouri and has tried numerous jury and bench cases to verdict. He has also successfully argued appeals in front of various Appellate Courts of Illinois. In addition to being admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and the State of Missouri, he is also admitted in the Federal District Courts for the Southern, Central and Northern Districts of Illinois.
Mr. Powell has represented insurance companies and their insureds in first and third party litigated disputes, Fortune 500 companies in premise and products liability cases, corporations and small businesses, real estate owners, and individuals in contract, commercial and business law disputes. He also represents individuals in the preparation of wills and trusts, Power of Attorney, deeds, contract review and real estate closings.

Kevin Hays, a native of Champaign, IL, joined the law firm of Bartell, Barickman & Powell, LLP, as a summer law clerk in 2006, and was invited to join the firm as an associate attorney following his 2007 graduation from Southern Illinois University School of Law. At SIUC, Mr. Hays was an elected 3rd year representative on the Student Bar Association. Additionally, Mr. Hays was a research assistant to SIUC Law School Dean Peter Alexander when he co-authored the article, “Non-Uniform Bankruptcy Laws After the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act,” which appeared in the Southern Illinois Law Journal in 2007.
Prior to being called into law, Mr. Hays earned a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Southern Illinois University. During this time, Mr. Hays took up the challenge of developing and implementing developmental and education activities for children and parents for SIUC Head Start.
Since joining the law firm of Bartell, Barickman & Powell, LLP, as an attorney in August of 2007, Mr. Hays has specialized in business law, general litigation and bankruptcy law. Mr. Hays was admitted to the Illinois Bar in November of 2007, and sworn into the Federal Central District Court of Illinois in December 2007. Mr. Hays is a member of both the Illinois and Champaign County Bar Associations.

Kristin M. Barickman joined the law firm of Bartell, Barickman & Powell, LLP in January 2009. Prior to joining Bartell, Barickman & Powell, LLP, Mrs. Barickman was an associate in the Chicago office of the national law firm of Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell. In this capacity, she assisted national financial institutions and other corporate clients with real estate transactions, financing matters, mergers and acquisitions, business formation, and securities law.
Mrs. Barickman graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelors Degree in History and Political Science from Valparaiso University. While there, she interned for Illinois Congressman Donald Manzullo. Upon graduation, she worked in the Washington, D.C. office of U.S. Senator Peter Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Barickman attended the University of Illinois College of Law, graduating magna cum laude and receiving the College of Law’s Rickert Award for legal writing. During her time at the College of Law, she served as President of the law school’s Federalist Society chapter, clerked for Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne Burke, and worked as a graduate assistant to Governor Jim Edgar at the Institute of Government and Public Affairs.
